This is probably the most important aspect of our life yet it is a subject that few of us ever study. To many it remains a mystery yet some knowledge can help in that a person can begin to understand and appreciate that there is much more to human communication than reactions to gut feelings.
My journey down this road started with a course sponsored by North American Publishing and held in New York. That was in 1971. the course was centered around the concept of “I’m OK, You’re OK”, with the work of Harris and Berne being featured. “Transactional Analysis” came into my life and I was never the same afterwards. But it took the ending of a romantic relationship to bring me to pick up the book “The Road Less Travelled”.
What a revelation! To understand what love really was and how to understand and pursue it. And that in a world where most people do not understand what love is and who confuse real love with other feelings, with their personal needs, and their personal motivations.
As we age our orientation to relationships changes. What motivated us in our teens, twenties and thirtes changes when we enter our sixties, seventies and eighties. Companionship replaces lust.
In my opinion understanding this is key to happiness in the last chapter of your life
