Lowood was an interesting house bought as a UK base for the boys who were attending Wellington (Colin and David) and Scaitcliffe (Simon). In the mail came sales brochures for prior residents. These included Zogu (King Zog of Albania), this started my interest in Albania (see Albania Experience), Lord Patrick Beresford, Major Ronald Ferguson and others. Lowood had enoughroom to accommodate my father who, following the death of my mother in 1973 was a bit lonely by himself in his small bungalow in Uxbridge.
There is a photo of the rear of Lowood in the autobiography of Major Ferguson in his book “The Galloping Major” in the photos following page 70.
Reference to Lowood is also contained in an orbituary of Susan Barrantes who had been married to Major Ferguson and who was the mother of his children.Lowood was too costly to maintain and heat, so it was sold after a couple of years and the family located only in America.
More to come.
